St Peter's Dome

The climb up the double-helix ramps inside Michelangelo's 48m dome gets you level with the lantern. The lift takes you most of the way; you then climb the final 320 steps to the terrace.

Lift vs stairs

The official booking page offers two Dome products: Dome with lift and Dome with stairs. Both include access to St Peter's Basilica with a digital audio guide, and both cover the inner and outer rings of the Dome. Step counts, prices and time slots are shown on the official booking page at booking time — check there before planning around them.

The final ascent involves steep, narrow stairs. If you have vertigo, heart or mobility concerns, verify the official guidance before booking.
